On a recent Saturday morning, members of the HFA family, including Michael DeSantis, Jon Bacon, & Armando Herrera, teamed up to package meals for the less fortunate via Rise Against Hunger. The event was a chance for South Bay area Rotary clubs to work together to help those in danger of food insecurity around the world. About 100 volunteers showed up to support the important mission of http://www.riseagainsthunger.org/, who “strive to make a global impact on hunger by building resilience, self-sufficiency and empowerment among communities.”
Many volunteer activities can run the gambit between coordinated and chaotic, however this day the HFA team was impressed by the great organization and efficiency displayed by the organizers and volunteers. In assembly line fashion, where each person had a defined role, we were able to help prepare more than 23,000 pre-packaged meals to be sent to communities in need in Southeast Asia. Volunteers cheerfully assembled the meals while listening to hits from Michael Jackson and Journey. The experience was a reminder that the focused, organized energy of a group of motivated people can accomplish great things in a short amount of time. It was clear the HFA team members had a lot of fun and received intangibles that they will carry with them into the work week and beyond.
Thanks especially to the Rotary Club of Palos Verdes Peninsula and Rise Against Hunger for all their hard work.
