Delivering financial advice with the heart of a teacher.
I always thought I would be a school teacher. For me, nothing is more satisfying than mastering a subject matter and delivering it in a manner that allows people to make confident and informed decisions. But as the daughter of a successful female business owner, I grew up working in my mother’s investment advisory firm throughout high school and college. After years of working in operations and marketing, I grew to love financial services, and established a strong foundation for success. But being a teacher continued to tug at me.
Until one day I was offered the chance to marry the two and be a teacher to financial advisors. And so I did just that. For six years, I coached hundreds of financial advisors on how to transition their investment management business from a traditional, commission-based sales model, to a client-focused, consultative, fee-based model. I taught financial advisors how to serve in the best interest of their clients, as a fiduciary.
In April 2007, I decided to rejoin my mother’s firm, and continued to follow my passion to teach, but now to clients. Shortly thereafter, the financial crash of 2008 occurred. It was during this difficult time that I realized the true importance of what I had been teaching to so many financial advisors in previous years – the fiduciary duty to put client’s interests first; the duty to educate – and for me, to do so with a heart. Educating clients and their family members to make informed and intelligent decisions is the ultimate reward.
An advisor with the heart of a teacher will explain every detail to you until you get it, no matter how long it takes. And you have to understand it so you can make informed decisions.
